greencube's own meadow garden inspires in the August 2020 edition of " woman & home " magazine

our painterly pretty meadow in Langton Green

We re-visited a garden designed by us  greencube today. Built last year and planted by us in the Spring of 2011. We have now been asked back to design the front garden. We took an opportunity to have a look at the plants to see how well they have established. We love the meadow and orchard, what a great success, a real dreamy space, buzzing with insect and butterfly activity. Trying to capture the wonder of a meadow is difficult, here I have photographed the mown path with orchard and meadow on one side and perennial and ornamental grass bank on the other, the white fizz in the backround is Leucanthemum 'Angel' and yellow flower in the foreground is Anthemis 'Sauce Hollandaise' which has now past its best but I think still looks great! Here a mixed perennial border with Stipa tenuissima and Miscanthus sinensis 'Adiago'  The Leucanthemum 'Angel' up close.

Meadow Making

I'm currently reading 'Making Wildflower Meadows' by Pam Lewis who owns a wonderful plot in Dorset called Sticky Wicket, I haven't been but have been inspired by some wonderful images of her garden and meadow.  http://www.stickywicketgarden.com/ I share many of Pam's views on the importance of preserving our wonderful flora and fauna and with disappearing hedgerows, over ploughed fields, over developed land, the over use of nitrogen high chemical fertilisers to create high yields and EU banishing 'set-a-side' farming policy its not a surprise that our wildflower meadows are few and far. What's surprising is that herbal content in meadow grass is an important element in the well being of grazing animals, which have been eradicated by the over ploughing and polluting with herbicides and therefore affecting the chain further. Now that's dumb.... There is nothing more delightful than a meadow full of butterflies, bees and hover flies, crimson poppi...
