Chelsea Press Day

Wow what a day, all gardens now judged and everyone in a more relaxed mood. I love Andy Sturgeons garden, the Verbascums, the raised paths, the rusting corten steel,  and Tom's cloud clipped box hedge, so sculptural. Another favourite is James Wongs Maylasia Garden, it transports you to paradise.

lemon tree

Our focal point lemon tree looks fab. Also a part of team Hadlow is the wonderful Pat and Rocin, they are looking after all the plants, feeding them, bringing them on, repotting if necessary, they are doing a great job, it's helps having such great facilities, large greenhouse, polytunnels etc. I'm worried about the lemon tree transportation to the show, it currently has over 50 lemons on our tree, I might tie each one on before it travels to the show!!

Team Hadlow

We had a press day today which went well, meeting local magazine, newspapers and BBC Kent radio. They were invited to the workshop, I took them through the design and the students talked about their construction work to date.

Texture Reverse

I have chosen the stone for the show garden it resembles the farmed rows of crops a linear pattern it looks fab. Brian and the students have spent 4 long days cutting the pieces with an angle grinder, I must say they are making great progress. They have set up some test panels and we are trying out white cement and silver sand, semi dry mix and wet mix to search for the best results, we are also trying the new resin mix. Here are some images of the textural stone.

'Food 4 Thought'

Here's our garden description: a modern courtyard garden themed on an increasingly diverse range of crops grown in Kent. This garden represents past, present and the possible future farmed crops and aims to highlight ‘food miles’, climate change and the importance of water as a commodity. The garden is staged within a contemporary setting with focal point cantilevered outdoor dining table and ribbons of strawberries grown vertically. Traditional kent grown crops have been incorporated, but look through the window of change to see a mediterranean palette, highlighting the possible adaptation to the selection of farming crops due to global warming.

Sunflowers - Huge responsibility

I have been given a greenhouse by a new client who wanted rid of it and so I quickly dismantled, cleaned up, re-assembled and almost ready for my sunflower seedlings to move in, just waiting for my greenhouse heater to arrive, ordered online. The sunflowers are for Hampton Court, in colours of red, varieties include: Prado Red, Velvet Queen and Harlequin, lets hope I remember to water them.......... I'm sowing in batches weekly to hopefully get some to flower for the show.

PLANT HUNTING

Myself, head gardener Alex and Brian visited a couple of nurseries last Friday, very productive day and a few acquisitions for the show. We have asked Richard McKenna at Wyevale-East nursery to source the majority, he has so many contacts and was very keen to assist!
