What's Looking Good in Greencube's Garden - June 2012

Our large sweeping perennial and grass border has done incredibly well this year, it's second summer and all the perennials have filled out. I cannot see any gaps due to the great selection of gap fillers ( a very important plant to tie borders together and to suppress the mundane task of weeding). The soil is sandy but I have enriched with green compost and mushroom compost. Here's a selection of my favourites taken throughout the month of June: Nepeta 'Walkers Low' and Osteospermum jucundum, the bee's love the Nepeta   Saxifragra x urbium (London Pride) Allium multibobosum nigrum The Alliums are mixed with Salvia 'Caradonna' The Eremerus and Verbena's will be next to follow The Diascia 'Daydream' which we have used quite a bit in various gardens this year is filling the gaps on cue. Sanguisorba menziesii is looking great with the Calamagrostis 'Karl F...

Inspiration from RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2012

I offered my help to the Society of Garden Designers  once again this year, as a member, to help man the stand and offer  advice and promote the services of the society at the Chelsea Flower Show to all that came by, including initial design consultations, which is always fun and challenging, without seeing the sight/context. Always looking for new combinations of materials, textures, contrasts, planting combinations, new outdoor furniture, I took along my camera (of course!) and here are a few images of my day: SGD Stand designed by Amanda Patton MSGD Best in show and Gold medal winning Cleve West Garden sponsored by Brewin Dolphin. Cleve is my hero once again, such sophistication, graceful planting and understated design elegance, Cleve's garden'...

Greencube presents Uber Cool Garden in Tunbridge Wells

Our new garden completed in Tunbridge Wells has most definitely been awarded the  'uber cool badge' with its dynamic use of space, sweeping arc layout, cantilevered oak bench, division of zones by deck boards flush with paving, granite paving and coping, strip flame fire, tropical mix of lilies, palms, pittosporums and the best lighting I've ever seen! I spent last night at my clients with the landscape contractor Colin from Creative Landscapes whose team have been working hard on this garden throughout the winter months and lighting Engineer Peter from Greenleaf Lighting . Welcomed with a glass of wine which I sipped slowly shuffling around the garden with camera and tripod at hand taking many photo's, I've selected the best to show. Greencube's concept behind this design was to create an outdoor living room, pull up the armchairs, light the fire and enjoy being outdoors, this high specification property required a matching garden and we are proud of ...
