Festive Cheer

It may be December but we are as busy as ever, I'll be working right upto Christmas Eve and re-vamping our website over the holidays.

Here's what we are up to at the moment:

Border Preparation - 'stuck record'

I'm project monitoring the construction of a garden in Sevenoaks and visited yesterday, I must say very impressed with the border preparation. I sound like a 'stuck record' but plants need to establish as soon as possible with the best available nutrients, water and good soil for the best establishment, future growth and successful flowering. Seeing the guys dig out the rubbish soil, stones, roots and debris. adding good screened top soil and rotavating mushroom compost is the best preparation for plant establishment. A big thank you to those at Langdale Landscapes.

Obelisks arrival

I ordered these obelisks from woodengardenobelisk.co.uk, a small family run business based in Suffolk, great service. We are installing these within the two borders, along with matching arches in the same Farrow and Ball colour. Oversized large pots are to be placed on the brick platforms. This garden has been designed sympathetically taking into consideration the context: age and style of the property. We sourced bricks that appear to have a rustic old style despite being new and frost proof. It's looking great.

Gemma and I finished the bulb planting this week in a garden in sevenoaks, this one has only just been completed so I'll return in the spring and summer to take some photos.

We have used granite paving and granite capping to the wall.

I'm also working on designs for gardens in Speldhurst, Upminster and just finishing details for a large garden in Cranbrook.

We are also working with local Architects and Wildernesse Golf Club Committee to finalise the refurbishment and landscaping works for the Golf Club.

Large Garden In Sevenoaks

We have been working on a large scheme in Sevenoaks approximately an acre garden which is almost ready to gain quotations and we have just completed the tender on a large garden in Eynsford.

Gardens Under Construction

I'm keen to visit one of gardens currently being built in Bidborough by Quest Landscapes as well as a tiny courtyard garden in Folkestone.

Gemma has been busy top dressing and planting those final bulbs in our clients gardens who have regular maintenance visits, she keeps the gardens looking great and gets some amazing compliments.

Thank you to our clients in Battle, Sussex who sent me a lovely photo of there Nepeta growing in their garden this summer. We planted this garden Autumn 2013 and so plants are just starting to knit together. A great display of this wonderful perennial that flowers all summer and easy to maintain.

Sculpture in the garden, greencube designs a sculptural ball garden

I'm still out taking photos of all the gardens that have been constructed in the last year and last night I visited our clients in Borough Green, Kent to photograph this garden. We designed the terracing around this very beautiful home and picked up on the existing buff coloured stone detailing that formed the sills and frames around the doors and windows. A complimentary colour  of yellow granite was finally chosen (Yellow Granite paving from CED) and a sculptural border of yellow granite balls (from Rock Unique) underplanted with Ilex crenata balls and Libertia grandiflora. Oak benches and oak arches have also been included and some division of zones created by deck laid flush with granite. This scheme fuses well with the house and setting. I will return in August to take further photos when the garden furniture is in place and hopefully get some night shots, lighting not yet fully completed at time of visit. But my favourite is most definitely the Telegraph Garden

Designed by Cleve West, a magical space with walls retaining at seat level, so wherever you walk you can pause, sit and enjoy, I managed to gain access to Cleve's garden and even had a brief chat with him. I loved it even more once in the space. The star plant at the show for me is most certainly Dianthus cruentus, with its crimson flowers which looked wonderful in amongst the cotswold stone, with its elegant stems and deep red flower. The statuesque columns, the wonderful dry stone walls and planting that had space, looked natural and certainly did not look like it was only planted a week ago!!!! The play with water with the water pipes and channel through the garden with stone stepping stones, all beautifully executed and inspirational.

greencube's garden in Langton Green, near Tunbridge Wells features in Dutch Magazine this month

Our large garden in Langton Green  designed back in 2010 features in a Dutch magazine for April - Groei & Bloei , I had to use google translator to work out what they said: dutch "door efficient gebruik te maken van niveauverschillen ontstaan op een klein oppervlak twee terrassen, gescheiden door een prachtige plantenbak, die tevens dienst doet als regleuning van de zitbank." literally translates to: "through efficient use of level differences arising on a small surface two terraces, separated by a beautiful planter, who also serves as backrest of the sofa." my dutch is not too good! Here are some more photos of this garden:
