summer colour, material inspiration and garden ideas

greencube are always striving for new and interesting planting combinations, differing materials that contrast with the homes that will last and look great years later. I've been out and about taking photos of some of our gardens, majority of which are maintained by gemma, our well equipped and knowledgable greencube gardener.

here's a few images that hopefully convey our passion at greencube for each and every garden we work on....

Here in a garden in SE12 London, we have just completed a small courtyard garden which I'm visiting next Monday to photograph but here are a few images of work in progress:

Here we have installed sentry box style sheds, making them a prominent part of the garden design painted in muted clay colour to contrast with the western red cedar. We all need storage, these sentry box sheds add a sense of fun and style to the garden as well as a practical use.

this garden's fence has been clad in western red cedar slats, rich warm colour combined with boulders and scottish pebbles of 5 different sizes laid in flowing swathes. this garden has been planted with a busy professional/non gardener in mind, with easy maintenance palette of plants. The chosen hard landscaping includes 2 angled terraces one in limestone and the other in decking.

Here in a garden in Sevenoaks we have used the same farrow and ball colour on the bench, arches, arbour and obelisks, creating a rhythm, that pull the borders together not only in flower colour but with the structures placed in each area.

Deep purple of Salvia combined with Penstemon 'Garnet' one of our favourite penstemons that have a long flowering season are used in this garden.

meanwhile I returned to New Barn only yesterday to photograph a garden completed late last year, this garden contains grey granite planking and lush tropical mix with a few additional red splashes. This garden is the hardest to photograph as half the garden is in deep shade under a copse of protected chestnut trees and in contrast the other half of the garden is in full sun. With my best efforts this is what I managed to capture.

Here we have created skinny strips of planting between the granite platforms

We have used a deep crimson rose to climb on the slatted panelled fence painted in a pale grey.

Here I have combined a Euonymus with Buxus and Hakonechloa, creating a stylish simple palette of contrasting textures between the granite platforms.

Another garden completed last autumn had a maintenance visit this week, this garden in Sevenoaks is also taking shape nicely.

This new build house had a standard indian sandstone paving laid by the builder in the brightest colours, we changed all that. A family garden with areas for the younger members as well as the grown ups. Includes herb planters in oak, retaining oak walls, granite paving and play area.
