California Dreaming

I visited one of our finished gardens yesterday in Mersham, Ashford, Kent to take a few photos. This garden includes a feature Californian Amber wall with one of our favourite planting combinations of Nepeta, Salvia, Allium and there's also some Helenium and Coreopsis to follow. This garden makes me smile, it feels warm, sunny and happy even on a grey day. Our clients not adverse to a splash of colour. We enjoyed working on this project and here's the finished garden in its first summer glory. greencube garden maintenance

We have been visiting two of our newly completed gardens this week 1. Hadlow, Kent adjacent to farmland. 2. Loughton, in the centre of Epping Forest Gemma has been carrying out regular maintenance in this garden in Hadlow to keep it looking great. Here's the stepping stone paving over reflective pond The miscanthus is growing nicely. Here we have used Prunus nigra with a mix of perennials, shrubs and bold bands of ilex crenata 'Dark Green'.  The Salvia caradonna is looking particularly good. Prunus nigra stands out bold against the white rendered walls of the house. We have semi-enclosed this garden to create an  intimate space within the larger area, surrounding the  terraces with low 1 metre high walls, one of which has 3 water blades cascading into the pond. What's Looking Good in Greencube's Garden - June 2012

Our large sweeping perennial and grass border has done incredibly well this year, it's second summer and all the perennials have filled out. I cannot see any gaps due to the great selection of gap fillers ( a very important plant to tie borders together and to suppress the mundane task of weeding). The soil is sandy but I have enriched with green compost and mushroom compost. Here's a selection of my favourites taken throughout the month of June: Nepeta 'Walkers Low' and Osteospermum jucundum, the bee's love the Nepeta   Saxifragra x urbium (London Pride) Allium multibobosum nigrum The Alliums are mixed with Salvia 'Caradonna' The Eremerus and Verbena's will be next to follow The Diascia 'Daydream' which we have used quite a bit in various gardens this year is filling the gaps on cue. Sanguisorba menziesii is looking great with the Calamagrostis 'Karl F...
