What a busy January...

greencube have had a very busy January with enquiries up by 46 % from last January, normally January is a quiet month. We are normally designing work that we obtained from the previous autumn and planning our planting for the spring season. But we've seen an influx in new enquiries matching a normally busy spring month. We are currently working on projects in Sevenoaks,  Tunbridge Wells, Matfield and are about to embark on two new projects in Leigh and Stansted. Gardens are currently being built in Sevenoaks x 3, Loughton, Reigate and Bidborough Ridge. We have just delivered designs in January to our clients in Oxted, Plaxtol, Tunbridge Wells and Sevenoaks. We have new enquiries in Langton Green, Bidborough, Cowden and Sevenoaks. We use 3D modelling software to realise our ideas, to demonstrate to our clients how it will look and gain their confidence to go ahead. Here's a view of a front garden delivered and presented only last night to our clients i...

SGD AWARDS (the bafta's of the garden design world!)

I attended the Society of Garden Designers award ceremony on Friday evening at the Millenium Gloucester Hotel in Kensington, London. An awards ceremony for great garden design, now in its second year. Attended by the likes of Dan Pearson, Andy Sturgeon, Andrew Wilson amongst many other respected peers. A lovely evening, catching up with colleagues, lecturers, suppliers, landscape contractors and making new contacts. Award Winners   http://www.sgdawards.com/winners/4582117514 We did not enter the competition (maybe next year....) but thoroughly enjoyed the evening that rolled into the early hours. A big thank you to Palmstead nurseries , Nick Coslett and Andrew Wayre  who invited me to attend for the second year. Here's a few pictures of the evening.   and lastly here I am with the outrageously outspoken provocateur Tim Richardson - landscape and garden critic. Who I'm sure will write an interesting but controversial account i...

Vertical Planting on a Budget

Vertical planting has been incredibly popular during the last 10 years, inspired and driven by Patrick Blanc's amazing installations, seen in London, Paris and across the world. I dabbled with it back in 2006 for a rhs chelsea show garden, creating my vertical living art installations, but we have since played with the ideas. Here's an idea we carried out back in a tiny courtyard garden back in 2007, using offcuts of paving, to create the crevices in which I planted a mixture of Sempervivums, requiring a teaspoon of water, these plants can thrive in this sunny location and are incredibly low maintenance. Here mixed with Rudbeckia deamii, Achillea, Verbena, Anemanthele (although be careful with this grass, it can self seed anywhere, but easy to pull up unwanted seedlings) and topiary. This vertical idea creates a great, original, textural focal point that breaks up the white rendered walls that enclose this tiny courtyard.               ...

NEWS - christmas comes early... Sparrow Hotel completed before deadline of Christmas Day!

So here it is my treasured sparrow flats, this has got to be the most original and unique christmas present I have ever received, now proudly positioned on the north/westerly wall of our house. My triangular designed sparrow flats ( great tit's also welcome) , with 10 nesting boxes integrated within, you could call it the sparrow hotel. I'm waiting with anticipation for the birds to move right on in. All colour co-ordinated to tie in with our windows and doors. HOW SPECTACULAR. A big thank you to DAD Buckland (my father-in-law) who lovingly built this for me with great attention to detail and execution of my original brief. ha ha. It was delivered along with a tawny owl nesting box which has been positioned in our oak tree, we often hear the Tawny owl calling and we are hoping it likes its new home! So along with the nectar rich meadow that we carefully sowed last spring and was full of bees and butterflies this summer and my bug hotel wall, Our meadow this summe...
